How to build a fragrance wardrobe to help you be the best version of you

All year long I have waited for the weather to turn — for the moment when the air gets crisp and the sun sets at 5:00 p.m. I wait in anticipation for the shift that comes with the change of season. No, I’m not talking about seasonal lattes or knee-high suede boots begging to be paraded to Sunday brunch. I am talking about Changing Constance, a fragrance I’ve worn for years, whose smell of warm spices, caramel, and leather takes me to a place of comfort and familiarity.

Fragrance is powerful in its ability to transport us to different moments in time. Scent triggers emotion and nostalgia better than any of our other senses. Several behavioral studies show that smells induce more vivid emotions than images. That’s because our olfactory receptors are close to the part of our brain that controls our emotions.

Just as the right blazer might offer the confidence to close a business deal, the right fragrance for the right moment can yield the power to change our emotional state — and, as a result, maybe even our outcomes.
